It was not until 2002, China has imported all its chips LED. The country now meets half the demand with domestic production and made the transition from incandescent lighting to semiconductors. Stevenson picks Richard with the progress.
The Chinese government is determined to create a domestic industry for LED use all of their lighting needs. The countries currently uses 10-12% of domestic energy for light, which corresponds to 300 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year. But officials want to reduce these numbers significantly by replacing conventional, inefficient forms of LED[......]

NEXT-GENERATION Fiber optic technology: Chalcogenide photonic-crystal fibers expand nonlinear applications

16 May, 2010 (16:05) | Fiber Optic Industry News | By: admin

Waveguide losses remain a challenge in the use of traditional methods of photonic crystals based chalcogenide fiber, so that new methods are developed for cast glass fibers that create records with nonlinear coefficients.

chalcogenide glasses are a mixture of elements chalcogens (sulfur, selenium and tellurium) and other elements such as arsenic, germanium, antimony or gallium. In comparison with silica glasses, they have several distinctive optical properties, such as a transmission window as far into the infrared (IR) spectral range (up to 25 h for telluride glasses). chalcogenide glasses [......]
